(WS15004) TASMANIA · c.1915: unused real photo card by J.W. Beattie titled THE GERMAN PRIZE featuring a view of the S.S. OBERHAUSEN moored at PORT HUON after impounded in the first days of WWI · fine condition
SS Oberhausen, a cargo ship of the German Australian Line. Built in 1905
she was impounded at Port Huon in 1914. Later renamed Booral she was
taken over by the Commonwealth Line from 1915 until 1926. Later sold and
renamed Atlas she finished her life as Elpidophoros and after being
wrecked at Civitavecchia, Italy on 20 March 1930 and was broken up for
scrap
