Description
(BB1261) CAPE of GOOD HOPE · TASMANIA 1901: "A Memoir of the Boer War" illustrated patriotic envelope with illustrated stationery mailed at Worcester (Cape Province) by Private John Royle to Westbury Tasmania · Royle was a member of the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen. The accompanying letter contains some interesting information (see additional images).
The letter was underpaid by 1½d and taxed 15 centimes at Cape Town - on arrival in transit a MORE TO PAY (3)D h/stamp was applied at Launceston.
The envelope has some very light foxing (mostly visible from the back) and the flap has a tear but overall the condition is excellent...... and much better than any other example I could locate on the internet.
The illustrated letter is in fine condition
